HISTORY

The Indianapolis Academy of Music (IAM) was founded about 30 years ago by Eleanor Briccetti, a former member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. She wanted to ensure quality, music education was available to the urban student in Central Indiana.

The initial IAM was a part of the community arts program at the University of Indianapolis. Cellos were added to the all-violin program in 1980. The IAM became an independent, non-profit organization in 1992 and was called the Children's String Academy. The name Indianapolis Academy of Music was adopted in 1994.

The IAM is the only non-profit private music academy serving young people ages 3 and up with a diverse pedagogical approach including the methods and philosophies of Suzuki, Paul Rolland and Mimi Zweig, in the Central Indiana region. Today, there are over 125 enrolled students in the program.
